An ordinary street scene in Baghdad during my deployment to Iraq. What stayed with me most wasn’t always the violence or intensity. It was the persistence of everyday life happening alongside it. Storefronts opened, conversations continued, children walked home carrying schoolbooks. This photograph became less about war itself and more about the strange coexistence of routine and uncertainty.
